8th Annual Funky Monkey Raises Nearly $14,000

The 8th Annual Funky Monkey 5K & Fun Run raised almost $14,000 for the Thompson Foundation. Dozens of sponsors, hundreds of participants, and great weather contributed to the success of the 2019 event held March 9 at the University of South Alabama campus.

One of the highlights of this year’s event was awarding the 2019 Charity Challenge prize to Collier Elementary School. The school brought its running club, the Collier Cruisers, out in force and took home the $1,000 prize for the second year in a row. Last year, the Collier Cruisers used the prize to purchase UNICEF fitness bands. The bands track student activity to earn meals for hungry families.

As always, the event was capped with the creation of Mobile’s Biggest Banana Split, a 65-foot-long creation built with the help of Cammie’s Old Dutch Ice Cream Shoppe.
